Until I had fresh heirlooms. Now I like to try and grow any kind and they’re generally all great. Didn’t plant any this year though, these were from a neighbor’s generous bounty :)
I would wager most people that say that don’t like tomatoes have never had a non Walmart-esque tomato.
Yep, my exposure was just gross grocery store or very bland things in salads or burgers. Flavorless and sometimes mealy. I never understood it. Thankfully I can even get great ones at stores now.
the mealy ones were likely frozen or overripe.
I still hate tomatoes…
…that aren’t ripe heirloom tomatoes. You try to put an unripe, dried out, perfectly red and circular, bland slice of mass market tomato on my burger and I will RAAAGE.
They could be Cherokee Purple. Those stay a little green in the purple part even when ripe.
Maybe, but I’m talking about this fuckerthat you would see at a restaurant:
Ghostly pink on the inside and full of air between thick crunchy dividers. It can fuck right off.
Oh I misread your original comment. I thought you were saying op’s tomato was unripe.
Those still don’t work for me. I wish I liked tomatoes; I do like all the sauces they make. About the only place I can stand actual tomatoes is on a loaded bagel. Something about the taste and texture combination is just divine, the soft and strongly flavored lox, the crunch and tart onions, the sharp and tangy capers, and tomatoes, and I can forget for a while what they are.
I love a good tomato, but if it’s even slightly off it kinda ruins it for me. I can’t grow my own, so I’m reliant on whatever I can find in the store and too often none of them are that good
have never had Campari or even just cherry tomatoes?
what other foods don’t you like? tomatoes are a crazy one.
