My company sells and services industrial equipment, we used to have a 24/7 phone line we had to answer. People would call us at like 2am to try and diagnose the most obscure shit imaginable, the answer they’d get is “hmmmrrebblle. Uuhhrm. YeahIthinkIknowwhatthatmightbeuhhhh… Gimme just a sec…”
Yeah, unfortunately it’s a pretty specialized field. The company is less than 20 people, and the amount of people that were on those calls was less than 10.
We just have 2 people that are salaried to deal with it, now, so not my monkey, not my circus.
Yeah, they are actively talking to me as my brain is booting. At least they’re the first ones to talk on the call, so you have at least that time to gain your bearings
Same feeling every time whether it’s at 2 am or 2 pm (my circadian rhythm lasts 26 hours so I can either… I forget whether I’m always gaining an hour or losing two or the other way around I’m so godsdamn tired)
Bruh imagine being woken up by a phonecall (night owls will relate)

This is the one time i agree with outsourcing, get someone who is awake at that time to deal with it.

What did you service?
Industrial weighing/packaging equipment.
I have to be oncall sometimes, and my teammates know that when they hear “kburgugh”, that means I’ll be online in a few minutes
