Why do you interpret it this way with the context of ‘solarpunk’ and the door on the left labelled as an obvious bad thing? In other words, implying they’re choosing not to contribute to extinction.

Granted, I do think it’s wishful thinking more than anything.

EDIT: I guess I can see it with the wording if you just consider the door on the right to be escapism, though I also think even with that interpretation it’s probably unrealistic to assume that they can even do much with our current trajectory (even if current emissions somehow stopped overnight).

If you’re fine with buying and carrying around a flip-phone or something, no.

If you want the inactive smartphone you already have in your pocket to receive calls yes, because it will not work with the non-data SIM card. Even if you have 0 interest in data. EDIT: SIM compatibility might be part of that too, like how dual SIM adds another layer of bought-the-wrong-thing.

Similar to @jumping_redditor@sh.itjust.works. I am sure better plans exist here (like another user pointed out), but aside from device type it may depend on what store you’re at or just how much research you’re willing to do into if certain options are still good.

  • Reminds me of old cell-phone service options. Free hours, rollover and prepay/pay-as-you-go/contractless etc.

Not sure how pricing/value actually compares, but it does seem like if you want a phone now for emergencies you’re going to get fleeced (also required data package). Unless maybe you buy a flip-phone or something. A fiber provider in my area even still charges $40 for a land-line (no idea if it’s VoIP).

  • This just seems like explaining the difference between GPU-bound vs CPU-bound scenarios, and pointing out how generational improvements have made a big impact there.

Also, probably something about diminishing returns on the computation needed/accepted for games. Or the other side of the coin, the rising floor (with newer hardware) of what negligible CPU usage can achieve (also something like multiseat or server usage).

EDIT: I should say it both reaffirms how good of a deal I got on a 2700 in mid-2019, and is a good thing to remember on how much better new (Zen) cores are. (probably not upgrading any time soon though and still using a 1050Ti as well, though I don’t really need an upgrade anyway)

  • It is indeed paved over. I’m sure there are reasons, but probably not good ones given potholes like this. Aside from initial cost, for large vehicles+higher speeds. IMO seems a bit like gluing carpet over wooden floorboards (which is another anger-inducing thing, especially if you’ve lived in a house with a carpeted bathroom).

Not Just Bikes has a video on brick roads in the Netherlands (the bricks being called Klinkers, video called Natural Handcrafted Artisanal ... Streets?!), how they allow easier maintenance/re-use, brick designs instead of painting the surface after, worn klinkers used in historic areas etc.
