    I mean, while cool and beneficial, I hate to think what would happen if it becomes free and self-sustaining. Imagine a world where every piece of plastic rots at the pace wood rots if untreated. “Daaadd, my phone turned to dirt again.”

      So far this bacteria is really slow at digesting the plastic molecules so it won’t be that fast. But they are already messing with its DNA to make it faster. I still think your phone turning to dust is unlikely, but what happens in hospitals? What happens to implanted medical devices? It could certainly have consequences

      At this point that would be a blessing, no? Social media shutting down, plastic toys no longer sellable, climate is healing. Except certain medical tragedies of course, but I‘d argue covid was worse that that could be.
