Lol, you think steam decks won’t go up in price too? Sanctions affect everything. If you already have a deck you’re unaffected but if you already have a switch you’re also unaffected, for now…
I have a PS5. I don’t intend to ever buy a console again. That era is dead.
Sure, the deck can go up in price, but it would have to go up a lot to even reach the Switch’s current price. The Switch was already way more than I’d be willing to pay to get locked into Nintendo’s ecosystem.
That wasn’t the argument, though. Im not saying the switch is better, I’m saying the argument that it’s wildly more expensive than the steam deck is patently ridiculous.
It kind of is, though. The cost of the system on its own is not the cost of the platform. Buyung the same games on a switch+paying for online mp is substantially more expensive than having a steam deck and using steam.
Used isn’t exactly the same as refurbished, but even a new unit is still cheaper than a Switch 2, more versatile, has more games, and isn’t locked into any ecosystem. You get a lot more value with a Steam Deck, and like you said, for $50 less.
Oh no. I’ll have to continue to use my Steam Deck even harder now.

The cheapest model of Steam Deck, LCD 256GB, starts at $400.
After this price hike, the Switch Lite starts at $230, and OLED maxes at $400.
We’re talking about the Switch 2.
No we aren’t, this price hike only affects Switch 1.
Ah, ok. Well then this is probably moot anyway. There’s a huge second hand market for the Switch 1.
The Switch 2 is only $50 more than the cheapest model of Steam Deck.
It also has fewer (and more expensive) games and is quite a bit more restrictive.

Refurbished.
So now we’re comparing brand new systems to old used ones? Give it a year or so and I’m sure you’ll find used switch 2s on ebay for cheaper as well.
